Houchart Cotes de Provence Rosé – French rose wine
This 56 hectare estate is in the heart of Provence lies at the foot of la Montagne Sainte Victoire. Family owned and operated since the early 1800s, there is a lot of history here as the family had close connections with both painter Paul Cezanne and writer Emile Zola.
The rugged landscape, with Argilo-Calcaire solis is planted with Grenache, Cinsault, Mourvedre, Syrah, Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon for the reds and Clairette and Rolle for the whites. The roses are made up predominantly of Grenache and Cinsault.
“Bright medium pink. Musky red berries and cherry on the nose, with a light floral quality adding complexity. Spicy redcurrant and wild strawberry flavours are light in body and gently lifted by subtle minerality. An understated style, and well-suited to aperitif duty.” – Stephen Tanzer
